Wedding Shower Gift

So I scrambled together an unused trashcan I had lying around the house. A nice, clean one, I just don't have a place for it. And I washed it, ok? I obviously can't spend too much money on a shower gift, as I have none, so I needed to make my mini money gift look cool. I had some leftover wedding paraphenalia from that unsucessful wedding bouquet, so I added that, a couple of household items from thier registry, and threw together some quick cookies.
The shower was up in SC, I live in FL. I made the cookies and carried them up still warm on the pan. Then when I got up there, I went out drinking with an old friend, trying to wash down my puppy blues. So at 3:00 in the morning, and totally tipsy, I frosted the cookies. I knew I wasn't going to spend too much time on them anyways, because I'm just not certain they'd be totally appreciated if I did. I spent the appropriate time/appreciation ratio making them. I still thought they were adorable and personally thought my whole presentation was awesome. Pat pat pat on my back, please and thank you.

Photos of Unsuccessful Cookie Bouquets

I took the 4th of July cookie bouquets and merged them into one large one to take to my neighbor's where we spent the holiday.
And a close up of the cookies... the kid had gotten ahold of them by this point, I wouldn't try to sell broken cookies.

The bride and groom from the wedding bouquet. I forgot to snap a photo of the whole bouquet before we started eating the cookies.

Other Ventures

I'm still trying hard to avoid work and dirty eyes from my husband for avoiding work. Here's some other ventures I'm trying out:

I am waiting to hear if I got into nursing school this fall. I want to become a midwife someday, but I'm letting Uncle Sam pay for school, so that means going about it the hard way... through nursing school. Until that day, I am a doula, with only 2 births under my belt, neither of which I was paid for. That's fine, I needed and loved the experience, however, I was hoping for more by now. I am also expanding my doula-ness to include pregnancy counseling. I have always loved health and fitness, and want to focus that on keeping pregnant moms healthy. So far it seems there is no interest in that. I'm still 0 for zip on visitors to my website, calls from my car magnet and business cards. I need help! Here, tell your friends...

So, wonder why Uncle Sam pays for my school? I spent six years in the Navy. I was a photographer, and it was awesome! Just not as awesome as being a mom, so I got out when baby made three. In hopes of using some of my million dollar government training to my own financial gain, I am still a photographer. Again, there's something about me, cuz I'm not a very successful one. I've done some jobs here and there, but nothing substantial and no call backs. Maybe I'm not very good?? I do wish I had a better camera. Mine is a little broken and old, so it makes me just slow enough that taking kids pictures proves difficult, and lighting always seems to change on this thing. Do I pay to get it fixed or just get a new one? Of course I want a new one, but, I need jobs to finance that kind of investment. Again, tell everyone you know...

Alice in Wonderland Cookie Bouquet

I made this for a friend to give to a little girl who had a very lavish Alice in Wonderland themed birthday party. My first cookie bouquet. She never paid me for it. At least it was fun to make. And a close up of the cookies, I should have definitely taken the photos before I bagged them. Maybe I'll remember next time.

My First Farmer's Market

So, I've had a horrible week. My dog died this week, and I've had her for only six short years. I spend at least 22 hours a day with her, and she is by far the highlight of my two-year-old's days. I can not explain how much it hurts to loose her, and how angry I am that my son will never remember his puppy and how much he loved her and she loved him, and how much fun they had together. She was the perfect dog for him.
I have to stay busy to keep from all out bawling in front of my son, who doesn't understand that his puppy is dead. So... I stayed up till the wee hours baking cookies. I'm focusing on the 4th of July and have one wedding bouquet in hopes that someone will walk by that happens to need a last minute wedding gift. It's a large gamble, I know, but I don't know how else to get my products out there for people to order stuff. I'm hoping this blog will be the beginning of that. Then I woke up extra early to get the bouquets finished and stuff together. I was far from ready, and did not have barely enough things to get my money back, but I had to get out and do something away from my dog-free home.
I get the kid loaded, stuff loaded, lunch packed, blow a kiss to my sweet puppy's fresh grave and cry all the way to the farmer's market. When I get there, wouldn't you know, they've decided to close it down as they aren't making any money there. Keep in mind, I've been emailing this guy and he said to come out anytime, no reservations or anything required. He's just standing there telling people to go away, that's as professional as his decision to close was. I have at least $50 of stuff in the back about to go to waste. I can't use the cookies next month when he thinks he'll reopen. The money I spent on 4th of July paraphernalia is null and void, unless I'm doing the same thing next year. I'm a little angry. My heart is already broken. And he won't let me into the other farmer's market as they are focusing on veggies not crafts (that's BS, I've been there and bought cupcakes, cookies, and nuts... I have a sweet tooth or two). Back to the drawing board. At least I have a lot of cookies to eat to help get me through another day without my dog.
